All the Colours of the World are between Black and White

Event as part of the Afrikamera 2025 film festival

Heinrich Böll Foundation, Schumannstr. 8, 10117 Berlin

Bambino has settled into his single life as a delivery driver in the Nigerian metropolis of Lagos. He is happy with it, is helpful and generous to his neighbours. When he meets the charismatic Bawa, who wants to hire him as a model, a special bond develops between the two, tender and reserved.

The film tells the story of the two men's rapprochement in a society that taboos same-sex love and prosecutes it. An unexpected love unfolds with great calm. The sensual and politically important film ‘All the Colours in the World are between Black and White’ won the Teddy Award at the 2023 Berlinale.

We show the film and then talk to the director and author Babatunde Apalowo, the Nigerian LGBTQI rights activist Bisi Alimi and Ulle Schauws, member of the Bundestag for Bündnis 90/die Grünen, about the making of the film and the political context.

How has life evolved for the LGBTQI community in Nigeria and on the African continent over the last two decades? What strategies can we take to counter the growing anti-rights and anti-gender movements on a global level? What opportunities are there from Germany to support queer voices from African countries?
