Strong Partners, Stable World

Why Germany, Korea, and Japan Must Stand Together

Economic security, technological competition, and military security are increasingly intertwined, while developments in Europe and the Asia-Pacific are becoming more closely connected. As debates on defense policy, supply chain resilience, and economic security gain urgency, governments are reassessing long-standing assumptions about globalization and the liberal international order. In this shifting geopolitical landscape, countries such as Germany, Japan, and South Korea are recalibrating their strategies in response to a more uncertain and fragmented world.

This public panel discussion brings together security experts from Germany, Japan, and South Korea to explore how their countries are adapting to these evolving challenges and what this means for future cooperation. The conversation will focus on changing approaches to defense, economic security, and strategic partnerships, and will examine the potential for deeper trilateral engagement among the three countries. Particular attention will be paid to how cooperation can move beyond symbolic alignment toward practical and sustained collaboration, and which areas—ranging from security policy to technology and economic resilience—offer the greatest opportunities for joint action.
