Theatre Workshop: “Let the Dream be Your Wings” Hope as a Coping Mechanism to Overcome Hardship and Trauma

Kulturwochen Syrien

“Hope seems to shed some positive light both on future and current stressful situations. The perception that one has the means to accomplish positive outcomes, whether or not this perception is illusory, can be an important motivator for war refugees to strive to overcome the horrific impacts of war.”

Hani Al Rstoum and Shadi Alaiek will be leading a 6-hour Playback Workshop for a group of Arabic speaking residents in Kiel. In this workshop, we will utilize different techniques from Playback Theatre and Socio-Drama to bring the group together in a fun and deep process.

This workshop is a chance to try to understand how hope can help us to overcome traumatic experiences and survive hardships in our lives. Through this workshop we will explore the impact of traumatic experiences on us and how hope makes us survive. Hope which comes in different shapes and style, which takes the form of a Dream.

After the workshop, a playback performance will be held in which participants of the workshop and others can sail together in the world of stories and tell their personal stories that might arise during the workshop. The team of the performers will be a mixed team from Germany, Syria, Iran, and Afghanistan.
